Lesson 4: The Metric Tensor

In this lesson, we discuss the metric tensor - a mathematical object that was briefly introduced at the end of the previous lesson. In particular, we'll look at the geometric meaning behind the metric and its components as well as what they can be used for.

The metric tensor is also one of the most important mathematical objects you'll come across in general relativity. Components of the metric tensor are what you would get as solutions to the famous Einstein field equations, which describe the interplay between spacetime curvature and matter. So, this is lesson is going to be hugely important for understanding general relativity!
